The creative, open, progressive and innovative inhabitants of Amsterdam are aware of their place in the world. They are especially proud of the fact that their city is called the Capital of Sports. Every year top international sport events take place, like the Amsterdam Open Wheelchair tennis tournament, which has welcomed players from all over the world for 12 years.
There are countless gyms and sport facilities in Amsterdam, which are supported by the city, large and small companies and an enthusiastic public. The Frans Otten Stadion is the newest and the most modern sport centre. An ideal location for the Masters: the stadium offers 15 outdoor courts and 8 indoor courts with TennisPro surfaces. With 3 sociable bars and an excellent restaurant, it is the perfect place to see how recreation and sports merge.
The stadium is named after Frans Otten, son-in-law of Anton Philips, who in 1891 founded Philips an early producer of lamps, sockets and street-lightning. Around 1930 Philips started making investments in the development of sport facilities in The Netherlands, mainly in electrical lighting and heating, something rare at the time of an economic recession.
Many tennis and squash championships, tennis clinics, tournaments and other sporting events have been organised in this stadium. Ex-international player Michiel Schapers runs his own tennis school here. Next to the 23 excellent tennis courts, there are 21 squash courts and the possibility to do fitness training, if necessary with accompaniment of a physiotherapist.
The Frans Otten Stadion has plenty of room to create pleasant Players Lounges. The Big Room will be divided into a part for the referees and the linesman, a part for the ball kids and a communication centre which will be used by the ITF, the organisation and the press.
For Sponsors and suppliers of the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters there is a classy, somewhat traditional MasterClub. Thanks to their support this event can take place. The Masterclub is par excellence suitable for an informal reception for invited guests, relations and/or employees.
Thanks to the great position of the Frans Otten Stadion to the A10 ring road of Amsterdam, the stadium is easy to reach, both with public and private transport and there are 200 parking places.
